Ahead of Ajax’s Champions League clash against Rangers, a top Super Eagles defender has been hailed by his manager
Alfred Schreuder, Ajax boss has hailed Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey as a massive signing for them.
Bassey will face his old team for the first time when Ajax host the Gers at the Amsterdam Arena.
Despite starting his full professional career at Leicester in England, Bassey didn’t get to show his quality until he crossed to Scotland where he joined Rangers.
His time at Rangers was filled with great memories as he won the league title, the cup and also helped the club to a Europa League final. He was named in the competition’s team of the seasons and had done enough to be cited by Ajax as their next defender.
Bassey joined Ajax for €27.5m including add-ons and started with a red card on his debut for the club. He has not looked back ever since and is sending tongues wagging and making critics swallow their words, and pride.
After Frank de Boer’s good comments about Bassey, Ajax coach has also healed praises on the 22-year-old defender.
“I think he’s a great signing for us,” Schreuder said ahead of his side’s UEFA Champions League clash against Rangers.
“We’re happy that he’s here on our team. He’s a very positive guy, good energy in the team; he’s improving with the ball.
“We’re very happy he’s in our squad,” he said.
