The Nigeria international is surplus to requirements at Salernitana, but he could find a new home in Campania
Italian Serie B campaigners Benevento Calcio have emerged as the favourites to sign Super Eagles striker Simeon ‘Simy’ Nwankwo from U.S. Salernitana 1919.
Simy does not have many fans in Salernitana following his meagre contribution to the Garnets’ miraculous relegation escape in Serie A last season.
After arriving from Crotone, Simy only managed one goal and two assists in 19 appearances before he was shipped on loan to Parma in January.
The 30-year-old’s luck did not shine any brighter at Parma, where he found the net once in 12 games, and he was duly sent back to Salernitana.
Salernitana is still open to letting the big target man leave the Stadio Arechi, and Benevento may offer a way out for the player and club.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Benevento are interested in signing Simy and are working on a swap deal for the former Portimonense ace.
The Yellow and Reds want to give up 32-year-old Brazilian striker Diego Farias in exchange for Simy.
Simy remains Nigeria’s all-time top goalscorer in the Italian Serie A with 31 goals, three more than Obafemi Martins and five more than Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
