The Nigerian women’s U-20 team, Falconets lost 2-0 against the Netherlands on Sunday night but their coach believes they’re a rich crop of footballers
Falconets coach, Chris Musa Danjuma has praised his players despite their loss in the quarterfinals of the U-20 World Cup.
Danjuma described the girls as “excellent, phenomenal players” and said Nigeria is blessed to have such a group of hungry footballers.
While he rued the girls’ experience and exposure for their inability to progress, he said the Super Falcons’ future is in good hands with such players set to step up.
What did Chris Danjuma say about the future of the Super Falcons?
When asked about what he made of Nigeria’s outing in Costa Rica, Danjuma said; “We came with players that are from the league, the home league. To be able to stand theirs against players in the world, I think we have a lot to offer.”
On the failure of the referee to award a penalty to the Falconets after a foul on Sabastine in the Netherlands box, Danjuma said; “I’ve always been indifferent about it because everybody has a job. If the referee from her discretion felt it ‘s not a penalty and everybody saw it, she has the whistle. She calls the shots. I have every hope that penalty would have helped us drag the game into extra time.”
Danjuma said the players have the hunger required to make it at the top level and described them as phenomenal.
”They’re phenomenal. Excellently wonderful players. They have this hunger to show themselves. I’m telling you that Nigeria is blessed to have this crop of players graduating in future. I think the future of the senior team is secure.”
