Premier League: Iwobi’s brilliance cancelled out by Sinisterra, Aribo’s Southampton shock Chelsea

The Premier League resumed on Tuesday, and Nigerian players were in action for their teams

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi assisted Anthony Gordon’s 17th-minute opener for Everton, but the goal was not enough as Luis Sinisterra equalized for Leeds in the second half to ensure a 1-1 draw.

Everton continued their search for their first three points of the season when they traveled to Elland Road to take on Leeds United.

Super Eagles star Iwobi got the nod to start in midfield as usual, and he repaid the trust put in him by manager Frank Lampard.

Iwobi sent a sublime pass to teammate Anthony Gordon, and the youngster placed a superb finish behind Ilan Meslier in the Leeds United goal.

However, Everton were unable to hold on to their lead. New Leeds United signing Sinisterra equalized in the 55th minute to ensure that both teams shared the spoils 1-1.

Meanwhile, it was a good outing for Aribo and his Southampton side, as they sealed a hard-fought 2-1 win over Chelsea.

Aribo started from the bench, but by the time he was introduced into the game, the Saints had almost completed the job.

Raheem Sterling put Chelsea in front just after 23 minutes. But the blues lost focus, conceding two goals. They failed to muster anything solid in the second half.

Aribo was introduced into the game in the 65th, and he helped shore up the midfield to neutralize Chelsea’s threat.

At the end of 90 minutes, it was Southampton 2 and Chelsea 1.
