One of Nigeria’s most sought-after attackers in Europe is convinced there is more to come from his prolific scoring boots
UD Almeria forward Umar Sadiq cannot wait to experience the Spanish La Liga with the Rojiblancos, hoping to unleash more terror on top-flight defenders than he poured on Segunda Division’s tough men.
Defenders in Spain’s second division will be glad to see the exit of Sadiq, judging by his record against them in less than two years.
Since signing for Almeria in September 2020, Sadiq has scored 38 goals in 74 La Liga 2 games, providing another 19 assists.
Eighteen of those goals were smashed past helpless goalkeepers during the recently concluded season, with his last strike in the thrilling 2-2 draw at Leganes securing the league title and automatic promotion to the Primera Division.
Sadiq’s ability in front of goal makes him one of Nigeria’s most sought-after players on the planet, but he insists he desires to experience La Liga with La Union.
The former AS Roma ace admits everything changes overnight in football, but he warns his opponents that he has more to give.
“Since I went to Almería, the goal has been to achieve promotion, and we also achieved it with the Second Division champion title,” the ex-Partizan man said, as per La vox de Almeria.
“Well, in the future, we will never know, but I know that the best of me is yet to come; I know that I can give even more.”
Sadiq is not surprised by his success in Spain, and he believes he is only reaping the rewards of his hard work.
“My secret of the season at Almería is dedication, work, always believing in myself, and always trying to make an effort, and with the help of my teammates, we have achieved promotion, and it has been a great season.”
Sevilla are the Super Eagles star’s biggest admirers. Still, Benfica may have jumped to the front of the queue for his services after offloading prized asset Darwin Nunez to Liverpool.
