The Belgian-born Nigerian international made history against Olympique Marseille as he hit a brace
Cyril Dessers was again the difference as Feyenoord defeated Marseille at De Kuip.
The on-loan forward scored his 9th and 10th of goals of the season in the Europa Conference League on Thursday, and became the first person to manage the feat in the history of the competition.
The Europa Conference League is in its first season.
His tally for the season in the competition is now 10 goals in 11 games and has emerged as favourite to emerge the Most Valuable Player of the tournament should Feyenoord make it to the final.
Dessers is two goals ahead of his closest rival, Tammy Abraham who is on 8 goals.
After helping Feyenoord overcome Marseille, Dessers said;
“There’s a high risk factor in the way we play, yet also brings a lot of rewards. We can make things very difficult for Marseille,”
The high risk, all-attack style has helped Feyenoord and Dessers score a lot of goals this season but it also means they’ve shipped in many. Feyenoord have scored 43 goals in their last 10 Europa Conference League games.
Dessers further hailed Marseille for their quality and star individuals.
“But they’re a very good team. You see that with guys like Payet. They weren’t in top form this evening, but they can still make something happen in a flash.”
