The Super Eagles star played a crucial role for his side as they continue to climb in the Eastern Conference

Super Eagles forward Sunusi Ibrahim put in a decent shift for CF Montreal to help them seal a 2-1 victory at home to Vancouver Whitecaps.

The Impact welcomed the Whitecaps as they continued their push to the top of the MLS Eastern Conference. Montreal had won their previous two, and they had a good chance to claim all three points against Whitecaps, who had picked just one win from their last five.

The home side started very early, as they scored just seconds after the start of the game. Djorde Mihailovic fired home after he received a ball from Alistair Johnson.

The Vancouver Whitecaps could not recover from the early shock allowing Sunusi’s side to go into the break with the lead.

Montreal started the second half in an identical fashion to the first. The play started from Sunusi, as he threaded a beautiful ball to Mihailovic, who provided a brilliant assist for Romell Quioto, who finished with aplomb to give the home side a two-goal lead within two minutes after the restart.

Sunusi did not just influence the attack. He also dropped back to help the defense. The Super Eagles star had one clearance and one tackle.

However, the Whitecaps pulled one back through Brian White. But that was all they could muster, as Montreal held out for the 2-1 victory.

The victory takes them to fifth in the Eastern Conference, but they have played a game.
