Arsenal’s young star, Bukayo Saka was on the GQ Style interview for the month as he revealed details on his life, career, and family.
Saka on the highly-regarded GQ revealed how a Barcelona player once embarrassed him and in turn making him a fan forever.
Born to Nigerian parents in the UK, Saka, 20, is one of the world’s best regarded young football stars and is already a full English international.
The winger made his Arsenal debut at 17, and is one of the best players at the Gunners who he joined as a little boy.
The Nigeria Football Federation had tried to lobby and convince Saka into playing for the Super Eagles but the attacker chose to represent the Three Lions instead and has already played an active role in a major tournament for the team.
Despite all these accolades at a very young career and age, Saka has already identified his favourite player and it came through an embarrassing situation.
The forward said Arsenal faced Barcelona in a preseason friendly in 2019 and he tried to press Sergio Busquets into making an error but he met a player with a touch he’d come to greatly admire.
“The way he just so elegantly turned me! I came at him to press him, I tried to fake this side then go to the other, and the way he just embarrassed me: I was just like, yeah, this guy is elite,” Saka said.
“The way he just took me out of the play, I said, ‘Respect.’ [Busquets] is three steps ahead of everyone,” adds Saka, “and that’s what makes you a top footballer. That’s what I realised that day.”
Saka is in line for his second major tournament with England as he’s expected to make the Three Lions squad to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
