The Club on the Meuse secured their place in the knockout stage of the inaugural European competition courtesy of a sterling performance from their Nigerian import
Super Eagles stars Cyriel Dessers and Peter Olayinka both traded goals, but it was the former that came out on top in Feyenoord’s Europa Conference League clash against Slavia Prague.
Slavia hosted the Dutch side in their penultimate Group E match, hoping to boost their chances of reaching the knockout round.
The Czech Republic side got off to a good start as Peter Olayinka put them ahead in the 12th minute. However, Dessers, who came on for Bryan Linssen in the 19th minute, restored parity for the away side in the 31st minute.
But things got bad for Arne Slot’s men following Dessers’ equaliser as Guus Til was given a straight red card for a dangerous play.
It did not affect Feyenoord’s game, though, as they went into half-time with the scores tied. However, Slavia retook the lead after the break, courtesy of a strike from Jan Kuchta in the 61st minute.
The score stayed like that until Dessers popped up in the third minute of added time to draw Feyenoord level again for the second time in the game.
Dessers strike was his seventh of the season for Feyenoord, and it was enough for them to seal the top spot in their Group.
Slavia are also still in with a chance of qualifying as they currently sit in second place with seven points, one ahead of Union Berlin in third place.
Why do you still refer to them as SE players when that empty coach, Dumbo Rohr never invites them.
Cyril Desser is my player but to be honest Nigeria have better strikers ahead of him, you can’t bench Osimhen, Taiwo, ighalo, or ihenacho for him but he is good player of another kid. People blame Rohr
