Both Nigerian forwards were on the scoresheet, but one ended on the winning side while the other suffered another top-flight loss
Nigerian playmaker Chidera Ejuke was one of CSKA Moscow’s best players on Saturday as the Muscovites carved out a convincing 3-1 home victory over Krylya Sovetov.
The Super Eagles attacker scored one and made quite a few intelligent plays at the VEB Arena as Aleksey Berezutskiy’s men moved to within three points of league leaders Zenit with the win.
With the home side trailing to a first-half strike from the visitors, Ejuke pulled CSKA Moscow back on levelled terms shortly after the break. Further goals from Chalov and Zabolotny in the last five minutes of the encounter secured the win for the Muscovites.
The excellent Ejuke notched a game-high nine successful dribbles, won 11 of 19 ground duels, completed two of three long balls, and made one key pass.
The former Heerenveen dazzler is enjoying a brilliant spell of form after scoring the winner in CSKA’s 1-0 win at Ural last weekend.
In the Italian Serie A, David Okereke scored his second league goal of the campaign, but it was mere consolation as Venezia crumbled 3-1 at Sassuolo.
Okereke, who netted the winner in his side’s 2-1 win at Empoli on September 11, opened the scoring for Paolo Zanetti’s men just over ten minutes before the halftime break.
But three goals from the home side after the interval condemned Venezia, who also paraded Nigerian full-back Tyronne Ebuehi, to their fifth Serie A loss.
