In the Spanish Primera División Femenina, Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala scored a brace for the third consecutive game to help Barcelona power to another commanding 8-0 victory over Villarreal.
Oshoala grabbed a double just four days ago as Barca thrashed Valencia by a similar scoreline. The Nigerian attacker also netted twice when the reigning Spanish champions humbled Real Betis 5-0 on September 11.
On Wednesday evening, Oshoala assisted Marta Torrejón’s 37th-minute strike, which extended Barcelona’s lead to three-nil inside the Ciudad Deportiva del Villarreal.
But her goals did not arrive early, with the African Women Player of the Year only finding the back of the net in the 53rd minute with the visitors already leading 5-nil.
The former Arsenal ace completed her brace in the 81st-minute to make it 7-0 to Barca before Lieke Martens added the eighth two minutes later.
The result leaves the five-time top-flight champions with a perfect win record from their four league games this term.
Meanwhile, in Russia, one-cap Super Eagles midfielder Bonke Innocent was in action for 62 minutes as ten-man Malmo suffered a 4-0 defeat to Zenit St Petersburg at the Saint-Petersburg Stadium on matchday two of the UEFA Champions League group stage.
The reigning Swedish champions were two-nil down when centre-back Anel Ahmedhodzic was sent off for a foul he committed as the last man barely eight minutes into the second period.
Innocent was replaced by Sergio Pena shortly afterwards in a tactical substitution. Still, the visitors conceded two late goals to remain rooted to the base of Group H. Malmo lost 3-0 at home to Juventus on matchday one.
