The Nigerian striker is a towering figure at two feet, and that is his major weapon against his opponents, but it leaves him at a disadvantage at times
Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has complained about the lack of protection from Jupiler leagues referees. The forward accused the Belgian referees of waving away fouls against him because of his size.
Onuachu was the highest goalscorer in the Belgian top-flight last season with 33 goals, and as such, he has become a top target for Jupiler league defenders.
However, due to his monstrous stature, he hardly goes down even after poor tackles from opponents.
“I feel like defenders really have to knock me over before I get a foul,” Onuachu told voetbalprimeur.
“When I say something about that, the ref’s answer is: ‘Paul, you’re a strong boy.’ Do different rules apply because I am big and strong? That makes no sense. A violation is a violation, it’s that simple.”
Nevertheless, it hasn’t stopped Onuachu from scoring, with the Nigerian on course to match his last season’s numbers for Genk.
Onuachu scored 35 goals in all competitions for the Belgian side last season, and he has already managed eight in 11 games this season, including the last three games.
He will hope to continue in the same vein when Genk take on RFC Seraing.
