The Nigerian striker’s brilliant start to the new season continued after he helped The Smurfs kicked off their campaign in Europe’s second-tier competition with a win

Super Eagles star Paul Onuachu was Genk’s hero as his stoppage-time strike helped the Belgian side secure a 1-0 win in their Europa League opener against Rapid Vienna.

The goal was Onuachu’s fifth of the season, having scored three in the league and one in Champions League qualifying.

Onuachu played for the entire duration of the encounter in Vienna, but the match itself lacked life. The opening half saw Genk bossed possession, but they failed to create any chance.

The second half was a different story, though, as both sides showed more intent in the attacking area. Genk once again dominated possession with three shots on target, all from Onuachu, including the winner.

However, the home side had more shots on target, but they were denied on four occasions by Genk’s goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt.

They would eventually rue failing to convert any of their four shots on target as Onuachu pounced on a ball from Theo Bogonda’s pass in the second minute of added time to give Genk an away win.
