The number one citizen of Kogi State is nursing a Presidential ambition ahead of the general elections in Nigeria in 2023

John Mikel Obi is the latest former Nigerian international to back Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello’s presidential ambitions for 2023.

It’s not a secret anymore that Bello is interested in contesting for the number one seat in Nigeria when the 2023 election takes place.

His bid has received the backing of some prominent Nigerians, including ex-Super Eagles stars like Jay-Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Taribo West and Tijani Babangida.

They all paid a visit to the Kogi State governor a few weeks ago and even played a friendly match together.

Mikel is now the latest ex-Nigerian star to pay a visit to Bello in Kogi, with the Stoke City star declaring his support for Bello’s political ambitions.

The Chelsea legend says there’s no one better to lead the youths in 2023 than Bello. Mikel also added that his visit was to appreciate Bello for the works he has been doing for the people of Nigeria.

“It is an honour for me to finally meet his Excellency personally after all the good things I have heard and read about him from not just the people of Kogi State but from Nigerians,” Mikel said.

“My main aim is to come here to show my appreciation and to thank him for all the things he has been doing for the people and also to support him in whatever future political positions he wants to go into.

“I would like to be there to support him, to be there by his side through this journey for him to achieve whatever he wants, which is for the betterment of Nigeria.”

“What better person to lead the youths than him because he has been doing all these good works, and that is why I am here to see whatever way I can come in.”

Nonetheless, despite Mikel’s support, there’s still a long way to go for Bello as he needs to earn the Presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) first before contesting.
