The Nigerian international went from being a relatively unknown striker to one of the most sought-after in Europe in just twelve months
According to top stats site Transfermarkt, Paul Onuachu is the joint-fourth most valuable Nigerian footballer in the world and the second in the Belgian First Division A (FDA).
Back in October, with the major European league seasons just a few weeks old, Onuachu’s market value was pegged at €7 million by the same site.
But the latest update sees the KRC Genk star’s value rise to €20 million, better than everyone in the Belgian topflight, save for Club Brugge’s Noa Lang (€22 million).
This development comes as no surprise, as Onuachu was by some distance the best player in the Jupiler Pro League during the just-concluded season.
The Nigerian scored 29 goals during the regular championship before netting another four goals in five playoff matches to help Racing finish second behind champions Brugge.
The 27-year-old notched another two goals in three cup matches as Genk lifted the Beker van Belgie.
While Lang remains the most expensive player in the JPL, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) target Lukas Nmecha is in the top ten at €12 million following an excellent campaign at Anderlecht on-loan from Manchester City.
