The Al-Shabab striker is the latest former Super Eagles star to get an appointment from the Ministry of Sports and Development
Former Nigerian international Odion Ighalo has been appointed as the new ambassador of the newly-reformed National Principal Cup.
This was announced by the Minister of Youth and Sports Sunday Dare when Ighalo visited him at his office in Abuja.
The former Manchester United striker’s new role will see him travel to all the six geo-political zones to watch the games and identify young talents.
He joins the likes of Daniel Amokachi, Segun Odegbami, Tunde Disu and Mary Onyali as the ambassadors of the newly-reformed Principal’s cup.
Ighalo’s appointment comes after Mikel was also appointed by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development as Nigeria’s youth ambassador.
The 32-year-old also joined Dare in inspecting the Moshood Abiola Stadium, which is currently undergoing renovation.
Ighalo retired from international football after the 2019 Africa Cup, where he finished as the top scorer with five goals.
