The 24-year-old further adds to the selection headache the Super Eagles manager is facing ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers after he increased his goals tally this season in Almeria’s clash against Real Oviedo
Gernot Rohr has a plethora of attacking options to choose from for Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers next month after Sadiq Umar became the third Nigerian player to score more than 15 league goals in Europe this season.
The former Rangers star scored a brace inside seven minutes but Almeria’s automatic promotion hopes took a massive blow after they played a 2-2 draw at home to Real Oviedo.
Almeria started well and were awarded a penalty in the 18th minute, but Jose Corpas missed the resulting spot-kick.
However, four minutes later, the home side were awarded another penalty, and Sadiq stepped forward to convert for his 17th goal in the Spanish second division this season.
The former Rangers star then scored his second on the half-hour mark following a ball from Sergio Akieme to double Almeria’s lead and took his league tally for Almeria to 18.
He also has two goals in the Copa Del Rey while he scored six league goals for Partizan Belgrade before his move to Spain.
Sadiq is now the third-highest scoring Nigerian in European leagues this season, with only Paul Onuachu and Simy Nwankwo scoring more.
However, despite his brace, Almeria were pegged back as goals from Samuel Obeng and Simone Grippo ensured Oviedo left with a point.
