‘He’s a boy who doesn’t let you see his soul easily’- Jons on Ebuehi’s future

The Super Eagles defender spent the just-concluded season at the De Grolsch Veste stadium, but his future is still up in the air

Twente manager Ron Jans has said that the club would like to keep Tyronne Ebuehi for another season, but that decision rests with the player.

Ebuehi spent the 2020/2021 campaign on loan at Twente from Benfica. The Nigerian rediscovered his form with The Reds after suffering a knee injury that kept him out for almost two years.

He made 33 appearances in the Eredivisie for Twente, scoring one goal and providing the same number of assists from his full-back position.

But despite Twente’s interest in keeping him at the club, Ebuehi has not decided on his future. According to Jans per Zerozero, the former Ado Den Haag star has not informed him of his plans, saying Ebuehi is a man that keeps things close to his chest.

“We would like to keep Ebuehi, but he still doesn’t know if that will be possible. He’s a boy who doesn’t let you see his soul easily, but Tyronne had a lot of fun here, Jons told 1 Twente per Zerozero.

Although Jons hinted that the Nigerian would love to come back, he admitted that it also depends on Benfica’s decision.

“He was injured for a long time, and now he only wants to play football. Now he is with the Nigerian national team, and they have CAN in January, and to be there, he has to play.

“He belongs to Benfica, and we have to see what they want to do with him.”

If Benfica tells him that he has to come back … Or maybe there is another club where he can play, and that can also be much more interesting for him.

“But we have a real opportunity, and it will only be possible if Tyronne wants to stay. And I think he wants to,” he concluded.

Ebuehi’s contract with Benfica does not expire until 2023.
