UCL: Sanusi Delivers Another Top Performance But Chelsea Edge Out Porto

The Nigerian international had another brilliant display in Europe's biggest club competition, but it was not enough to give the Portuguese champions the win against Thomas Tuchel's men

Super Eagles star Zaidu Sanusi was once again impressive for Porto, but Sérgio Conceição's men suffered a 2-0 loss to Chelsea in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal clash at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.

Sanusi was one of Porto's best players in what was his ninth appearance in the competitions. The Nigerian was brilliant defensively, winning 11 of the 14 duels he faced, while he also made four successful tackles.

The Nigerian had two successful clearances and two interceptions, while he also played his part in the attack.

Porto would feel they should've had gotten something from the game as they had more shots on goal than their opponents.

The Dragons had 12 shots in total, which is the double of Chelsea's attempts. But it was the Blues that were more clinical as they scored twice from three of their shots on target, while Porto could not beat Edouard Mendy despite having five shots on target.

Mason Mount gave Chelsea the lead with a brilliant finish in the 32nd minute before Ben Chilwell capitalised on a defensive error to score the second five minutes from time.

It's a big advantage for Tuchel's men going into the second leg next week. The second leg will also take place at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium due to the quarantine rules set by the Portuguese and UK governments.
