The Aba Elephants continue their ambition of becoming Nigeria’s first winners in the competition with a date against the Egyptians
Nigerian giants Enyimba are scheduled to meet Egyptian Premier League outfit Pyramids FC in the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals after the draw on Friday afternoon.
Enyimba needed a late winning goal from midfielder Cyril Olisema against South Africa’s Orlando Pirates to qualify as group leaders from Group A and have now been rewarded with a date against the 2020 finalists.
Pyramids were beaten finalist last year when RS Berkane lifted the trophy following a 1-0 victory, and the Egyptians would be looking to go a step further this term.
Enyimba, though, would fancy their chances against the Egyptians, a team that finished second six points behind Morocco’s Raja Casablanca.
After the draw unfolded on Friday, it was decided that Pyramids will face Nigerian club Enyimba in the quarterfinal in the coming month.
The People’s Elephants will travel to Egypt for the first leg on May 16 before playing host in the Enyimba Stadium in Abia for the return leg on May 23.
The winner of the encounter will go through to the semifinal to face the winner from the Orlando Pirates vs. Raja Casablanca tie.
The full quarterfinals draw:
Orlando Pirates (South Africa) vs. Raja Athletic Club (Morocco)
Coton Sport (Cameroon) vs. ASC Jaraaf (Senegal)
CS Sfaxien (Tunisia) vs. JS Kabylie (Algeria)
Pyramids (Egypt) vs. Enyimba (Nigeria)
