The two Nigerian stars made telling impacts at the Gers showed no mercy against Dundee United at the Ibrox
Leon Balogun and Joe Aribo contributed three of the Rangers’ goals in the 4-1 humbling of Dundee United in a game week 33 Scottish Premiership clash on Sunday.
Rangers, fresh from an energy-sapping, comeback 4-3 Europa League win at Belgium’s Antwerp in midweek, took a while to get going at the Ibrox Stadium against Micky Mellon’s men.
But once Aribo’s trickery and skill unlocked the visitors’ defence, allowing Ianis Hagi to open the scoring in the 35th minute, it was open doors from then onwards.
Three minutes later, Aribo’s compatriot Balogun, deputising for injured Rangers’ captain James Tavernier at fullback then supplied the ball for Ryan Kent to make it two-nil.
Aribo grabbed his richly deserved goal – his sixth of the league campaign – moments after the restart for the home side’s third before Alfredo Morelos made it 4-0 shortly past the hour-mark.
Borna Barisic then had his effort cancelled as Steven Gerrard’s men continued to turn the screw over the visitors’ neck.
Substitute Mark McNulty pulled one back for Dundee United in the 86th-minute but it was more as a consolation than the start of an incredible comeback.
Steven Gerrard’s men are in full control in the Scottish Premiership title race – they are 18 points clear of Old Firm rivals Celtic – and yet to lose any of their 30 league games.
The perfect Rangers have won 15 out of 15 matches at the Ibrox this term and are undoubtedly champions in the waiting.
