In just his third league match into his six months loan deal at the Turkish side, Nigerian forward Jesse Sekidika has netted his maiden strike for the Eagles
Exciting attacker Jesse Sekidika scored his first goal for Konyaspor to inspire the Anatolian Eagle to a convincing 2-0 victory over Denizlispor on Sunday.
After a scoreless first half at the Konya Büyükşehir Belediye Stadyumu, Abdulkerim Bardakci gave the hosts the advantage in the 52nd-minute, before Sekidika put a seal on the victory ten minutes before time.
The 24-year-old forward has not had it easy since joining Galatasaray in January 2020 after enjoying two excellent campaigns at lower league side, Eskişehirspor.
He failed to convince Gala coach Fatih Terim, managing just 162 minutes of top-flight football in a year and finding the back of the net just once – also against Denizlispor last month.
With compatriot Henry Onyekuru returning to Galatasaray in early January, a move away from the Lions seemed inevitable and Sekidika eventually sealed a loan move to Konyaspor in the finals hours of the month.
The former Napredak ace is, however, enjoying a breath of fresh air at Konyaspor, having started each of the Eagle’s last three league matches.
Sunday’s win is Sekidika’s first in Konyaspor’s colours and the club’s first triumph in seven league games.
Coach Ersan Parlatan’s side currently sits 12th on the league title with 27 points.
