It was a bad day at the office for Maduka Okoye days after he suffered a penalty shootout heartbreak on his first start for Sparta Rotterdam.
The Nigerian international made his first appearance for Sparta in the KNVB Beker Cup loss to Ado Den Haag last Wednesday.
Although Sparta lost via a penalty shootout, Okoye impressed Sparta manager, Henk Fraser, and the Dutch manager handed the Nigerian his first league start on Sunday.
However, it was a day Okoye would not want to remember as Sparta suffered an embarrassing 4-1 home loss to SC Heerenveen.
Heerenveen took the lead inside the opening seven minutes courtesy of a strike from Benjamin Nygren. De Superfriezen then doubled their advantage in 25th minute through Jan Paul van Hecke.
Henk Veerman scored the third three minutes before half-time before the Dutch star scored his second and Heerenveen’s fourth in the 57th minute.
Sparta scored a consolation in the 90th minute courtesy of a penalty from Lennart Thy, but it was a day to forget for the home side.
