The Super Eagles vice-captain delivered a man-of-the-match worthy performance to help the Hornets claim a win and keep a clean on Friday night
William Troost-Ekong has expressed his delight at making a winning start to life at Watford after his excellent display propelled the Hornets to a 1-0 win at Derby.
Troost-Ekong, who recently joined the Championship side from Serie A’s Udinese, made his debut in the encounter and delivered a composed, calculated display before he was replaced in the 77th minute.
Joao Pedro scored the only goal of the game after he was set up by Ben Wilmot with 14 minutes left to play.
Troost-Ekong made 45 touches, four clearances, won one aerial contest, and had an 89% successful pass rate to help his side keep a clean sheet in the encounter.
The defender has since been nominated for the game’s Man-of-the-Match award and is set to battle it out with goalscorer Joao Pedro and Ken Sema.
The Tottenham academy product took to one of his social media accounts after the game to express his pleasure on how his debut panned out.
“[I am] happy to make my Watford debut tonight with three points and a clean sheet! Well done to the boys! On to the next one on Wednesday,” Troost-Ekong posted on Instagram.
