Saturday witnessed another round of games across Europe’s top leagues, and a couple of Nigerian stars were in action for their respective clubs.
In England, John Obi Mikel was on from start to finish as Stoke City picked up their third win in the Sky bet Championship following a 3-2 victory over Brentford.
Steven Fletcher put the Potters ahead inside the opening ten minutes before James McClean made it two in the 35th minute.
Tyrese Campbell’s strike in the 59th minute appeared to put Stoke in cruise control, but Marcus Forss pulled one back for Brentford.
Forss then scored his second in the first minute of added time to set up a nervy finish. However, Michael O’Neil’s men held on for a precious three points.
Meanwhile, it was not a good day at the office for Nigerian trio of Ademola Lookman, Ola Aina and Tosin Adarabioyo as Fulham suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Eberechi Eze’s Crystal Palace.
The former QPR man was a second-half substitute while Fulham trio played for the entire duration of the match.
Fulham, who are still looking for their first win since returning to the Premier League, fell behind in the eighth minute after Jairo Riedewald’s strike put Palace ahead.
Ivory Coast international, Wilfried Zaha doubled the Eagles lead in the 64th minute. It got worse for Scott Parker’s men as Aboubakar Kamara was sent off two minutes from time.
Although Tom Cairney’s strike in the 90th minute reduced the deficit, it was too late to spark a comeback.
