The Super Eagles striker is hoping for a fresh beginning, but he would be disappointed with the way he was taken off in Les Monégasques opening day Ligue 1 clash
Henry Onyekuru was taken off at half-time as Monaco had to comeback from two goals down to salvage a draw against Reims in their Ligue 1 opener.
The Nigerian international joined Monaco from Everton last summer but was loaned out to Galatasaray in January after struggling to get game time.
On the expiration of his loan deal at Turkey, Onyekuru returned to Monaco with former Bayern Munich manager, Niko Kovac, now in charge of the team.
The arrival of Kovac offered Onyekuru a chance to start afresh at Stade Louis II, and he recently revealed he is happy to the back.
However, in Monaco’s opening match against Reims for the new Ligue 1 season, the ex-Eupen striker was taken off after just 45 minutes.
Although he was handed a start, he did not resume the second-half as Kovac made tactical adjustments. Boulaye Dia and El Bilal Toure had given Reims a shock two-nil lead before Axel Disasi reduced the deficit on the stroke of half-time.
