The Nigerian attacker is hero worshipped in Turkey, and is attracting interests from top clubs in the land but his immediate future appears to lie in France
Super Eagles star Henry Onyekuru has revealed he is thrilled to be back playing for Monaco after helping the French side defeat Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in a pre-season friendly game.
The Nigerian youngster played the first half against AZ but was substituted for Nacer Chadli as Nico Kovac’s men secured a fine 2-0 win courtesy of goals in each half from Aleksandr Golovin and new captain, Wissam Ben Yedder.
Reacting after the game in a video posted on the official Monaco Twitter account, Onyekuru spoke of his desire to help the Principality club to success in the coming season.
“I am very happy to come back here to Monaco. I hope we will continue to work well and get to the top,” the 22-year-old attacker said.
“It was a good game with a great team. We played well, we pressed hard until the last minute. We deserve the victory and we have it, that’s good.”

Onyekuru spent the second half of last season on loan at Galatasaray where he won the Super Lig last year. Yet another Turkish side, Fenerbahce, have reportedly contacted Nigeria’s assistant coach Joseph Yobo to help persuade the former Anderlecht star to return to Instabul.
But Monaco boss Kovac insists he has seen enough of Onyekuru to want him to stay ahead of the 2020-21 Lig 1 season.
“I see them (Gelson Martins, Henry Onyekuru and Axel Disasi) every day in training and I know what they are capable of,” Kovac said.
“By picking up the right pace, they will bring a lot to this team. But rather than talking about individual performances, I prefer to express myself on the good state of mind shown by the team, in a global way.
“What is important for me is to have the right attitude and we are on the right path. We must continue on this path.”
Monaco kick start their league campaign with a hosting of Reims next Sunday.
