in News, Nigeria

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has shared details of how it plans to share the Covid-19 relief funds received from FIFA, CAF and other sponsors.

The NFF received a total of 1.5 million dollars from the world football governing body with 500,000 of the amount to be used for women's football development.

The country's football governing body also received a sum of 300,000 dollars from CAF, while there was a sum of 100,000 dollars each from sponsors, Nike and Coca-Cola.

With the sum totalling to two million dollars, NFF has revealed the money will be shared across all football sectors in the country.

However, the sharing plan has created controversy as Women's football will only get 500,000 dollars from the total amount.

But in a statement available on FIFA'S website, it was revealed that at least 50% of the relief funds should go towards the development of Women's football.

So .@FIFAcom stated clearly that ATLEAST half of the COVID-19 relief funds ($1.5m) should be used for women's football but look what's being proposed by .@thenff

Also, of the $300k .@CAF_Online & $200k sponsorship funds, the women will get zero. Why is that so? pic.twitter.com/fQu2rE0xhG

Aside from the compulsory 500,000 dollars, Women's football will not have a share from the CAF, Nike and Coca-cola relief funds.

Meanwhile, Men's football will get the large chunk of the funds with 1,500,000 dollars going towards the development of the men's game.
