After his best efforts could not help rescue the Latics from suffering relegation on the last day of the Championship, one-half of Nigeria’s Oyinbo Wall is on the verge of moving to Scotland
According to the Scottish Sun, Rangers have reached an agreement with Nigeria defender Leon Balogun, with the former Brighton Hove and Albion man about to sign a two-year contract with the Ibrox giants.
Balogun would be saying his goodbyes to Wigan Athletic just seven months after joining the Latics in January following a forgettable spell in the Premier League with Brighton.
The Super Eagles defender played some of his best games at the DW Stadium and his excellent performances have caught the eyes of Rangers boss Steven Gerrard, who has been in the market for a centre-back with Nikola Katic out for an extended period due to a serious injury.
Gerrard reportedly held talks with the defender and has managed to convince him to move to Scotland this summer.
Rangers will hand a two-year contract to Balogun, a vastly experienced who has played for Nigeria at the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.
Should the deal scale through, Balogun will be teaming up with international teammate Joe Aribo, who joined the Gers last summer from Charlton Athletic.
Aribo is already cutting a cult hero figure among Rangers’ fans with his incredible displays and Balogun would be hoping to follow in such footsteps.
