Shaw Reveals How United Stars Feel About Ighalo’s New Deal

in EPL, News, Nigeria

The Nigerian forward has extended his contract with the Red Devils for another seven months

Odion Ighalo is set to remain at Old Trafford until the end of January 2017 after the childhood United fan, his parent club, Shanghai Shenhua, and United agreed late in May.

This comes after weeks of uncertainty regarding whether Man United consider him good enough for a new deal or Shenhua were keen to have him return to China ahead of their new league season.

But with his continued stay at his dream club now confirmed, Ighalo can get back to impress his boss and the army of United fans.

And it is news that has been well received by other United players, says fullback Luke Shaw.

The England international has revealed that Ighalo brings a different dimension to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, and everyone at the club is delighted that the contract issues concerning the former Watford man were resolved positively.

“We've already had some really good news at United this week with Odion extending his contract,” Shaw told Man United.

“All the players are really happy for him. Obviously, his situation was up in the air, and we try not to talk about that kind of thing at training, but we're just so happy for him.

Shaw admits that several people had doubts about Ighalo's quality when he arrived, but he's pleased that the retired Super Eagle has proven them wrong with his performances.

“Before he arrived, a few people outside the club weren't too sure what he was going to bring to the club, but he's shown everyone because he's brought goals and a different style to our other strikers.

“He's earned and deserved the chance to stay here longer. He brings happiness and a smile to the place. He's great in training, but he's also been really important at times during games and scored some great goals.

“Now that everything's sorted, hopefully, he can relax now and settle back into doing what he was doing before football stopped.”
