Super Eagles star, Samuel Chukwueze, played an important role as Villarreal scored in added minutes to secure a dramatic win over Celta Vigo at the Estadio Municipal de Balaídos on Saturday evening.
In what was a snoozefest, it took the brilliance of Chukwueze, and two other Villarreal substitutes to earn the three points for the away side.
After a boring goalless first half, Villarreal’s manager, Javi Calleja introduced the Nigerian international, and Colombia star, Carlos Bacca in the 58th minute, and those two played a major role in Manuel Trigueros late winner.
The game was heading towards a goalless draw until Chukwueze released Bacca in the first minute of added time, but the Colombian was beaten to the ball by Celta Vigo keeper.
The resulting ball fell into the path of Chukwueze whose shot was also blocked, but Trigueros, a 67th-minute substitute, was on hand to claim the loose ball, and fire home from close range.
It was the 21-year-old’s 27the appearance in the Spanish top division this campaign. The Yellow Submarines win lifts them into eighth position with 41 points from 28 games.
