Super Eagles goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi is attracting the interest from clubs in Belgium, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
Akpeyi is currently on the books of Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa and has been impressive for the club this season with several match-winning performances.
But according to his agent, Mohammed Lawal, the former Warri Wolves goalkeeper is nursing ambitions of playing in Europe.
“Yes, there is interest in the services of Daniel. I won’t give you the names of the clubs. There’s interest from Belgium, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait,” Lawal told IOL.
Akpeyi is currently the first-choice goalkeeper for the Amakhosi after ousting the club’s captain and South Africa goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune.
He just signed a new contract recently, and his agent believes Chiefs hold the sway over Akpeyi’s future.
“At the moment, it is not about what we are considering. Daniel is a Kaizer Chiefs player.”
“Chiefs recently renewed his contract just in January. So, as it is now, it is not in our hands to decide. These clubs have to talk to Chiefs first, and we will take it from there. He extended his contract with two more seasons,” he said.
“Obviously, when a player is still active, he will always aspire to move abroad. For now, he is not going to move for the sake of moving.
“At the present moment, he is firmly focused on Chiefs and how he is going to help the club win titles during the duration of his contract,” added Lawal.
He has featured in 19 league games keeping nine clean sheets and conceding fifteen goals.
Akpeyi was part of the Super Eagles squad that won bronze at the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt. He kept clean sheets in the team’s first two matches.
