Former England international Les Ferdinand played with some of the game’s best during a distinguished career, but he’s confident that not many are as gifted as Queen Park Rangers’ talented midfielder Ebere Eze.
The English youth international of Nigerian descent has been one of the breakout stars of the Championship this season, and QPR’s Director of football, Ferdinand, admits that the club are resigned to losing the youngster in the summer.
Eze is enjoying a brilliant season at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, netting 12 goals and providing eight assists in 37 Championship appearances. Even more, than the stats reveal are his cute close control, his exceptional dribbling skills, and his seamless change of pace.
Tottenham are long time admirers of the 21-year-old, and Ferdinand has also confirmed that Crystal Palace made enquiries regarding the youngster during the January transfer window.
Ferdinand knows a bit about creating and scoring goals, having scored 149 Premier League goals, and contributed a further 49 assists to seal his place as one of the EPL’s finest goal scorers.
But in Eze, Ferdinand is confident that QPR has in their arsenal a playmaker who can develop into one of football’s finest midfielders.
“If you look at his footballing ability I could put him down as one of the best I have seen in terms of what I have been fortunate to play with in my career,” he told the Beautiful Game Podcast, in quotes carried by Goal.
“When I see some of the things he does on a football and how comfortable he is on a football, I put him up there as one of the best I have seen.
“Whether he fulfils his potential to be one of the best I have worked with time will tell, but in terms of his ability with the ball certainly he is one of the best I have seen.”
Eze is also a known target of Amaju Pinnick, with the Nigeria Football Federation boss keen on getting the wonder kid to switch his allegiance and play for Nigeria.
