The 31-year-old is part of Gernot Rohr’s 24-man squad for Nigeria’s double-header Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone
Following the news that he has earned a recall to the Super Eagles squad, Leon Balogun has received a congratulatory message from his club teammate and Egypt’s star, Sam Morsy.
The Egypt international took to his Twitter account to congratulate the former Mainz defender on the call-up.

The 28-year-old replied Balogun after he had expressed his delight at being part of the team for the first time since last September.
Balogun was once undroppable in the Super Eagles squad where he formed an important partnership with William Ekong, the two going on to be referred to as the famous Oyinbo Wall.
But the 31-year-old has found himself out of the team since the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations ended in Egypt due to his lack of minutes at Brighton Hove and Albion.
However, he joined Wigan on loan last January until the end of the season. Following this move, he has played five times for Paul Cook’s men, and that has earned him a recall to the Nigerian national team.
Nigeria will host Sierra Leone in the first leg of the AFCON qualifier on March 27 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba with the return leg slated for March 31 in Freetown.
