After watching his side fire blanks in the draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Manchester United manager has revealed Odion Ighalo will offer them something different in attack.
The former Super Eagles sealed a shock six-month loan move to United on deadline day, and Solskjaer can’t wait to have him.
The former Watford man was missing in the Red Devils draw against Wolves as he was on his way from China. United’s struggles in front of goal continued on Saturday, but Solskjaer believes Ighalo’s imminent arrival will help ease the burden.
The former Cardiff man pointed to Ighalo’s exploits at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations as a proof that United are getting a quality striker.
Ighalo finished as the tournament’s top scorer with five goals, and that has convinced Solskjaer United are getting a proper striker.
“Odion Ighalo is in the air and on his way. We will give him time to settle. He is a striker, has a physical presence and is a goalscorer so he will give us a lot,” Solskjaer told Metro after the Wolves match.
‘You would be thrilled when you have been a Manchester United supporter your whole life, and you’ve been working your whole life. ‘Being the top scorer in the African Cup of Nations tells you a lot about the qualities we are going to get, he added.
He also revealed his arrival would allow him to rest Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood with so many games coming up.
‘”He’s a different type of striker. He’s a proven goalscorer, physical presence. It also gives us a chance to rest Mason Greenwood and to rest Anthony Martial at times with so many games coming up.”
Ighalo will have to wait till February 17 before he makes his debut for United as the Red Devils will be going on a two weeks winter break.
