The former Everton defender was announced as the new assistant manager of the Super Eagles, replacing Imama Imama Amapakabo team’s technical crew.
Amakapbo was dismissed following his failure with the U-23 team and the home-based Eagles. The 50-year-old was in charge of the Olympic team that crashed out at the group stages of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, while he also failed to qualify the home-based Eagles for the 2020 Africa Nations Championship.
The results led to his dismissal as Super Eagles assistant manager with Yobo coming in as his replacement.
But following the announcement, football lovers have expressed their views with many criticising the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for appointing someone with no technical experience.
Yobo made 101 appearances for the Super Eagles, winning the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, and representing the country at three world cups.
However, despite his legendary status, pundits, fans and critics believe the 39-year-old is not the right person for the role. Some of the critics cited Yobo’s lack of coaching license as the reason why he is a bad fit for the position.

Wait o, @thenff named a @jyobo234 as assistant coach of the @NGSuperEagles. In the Lagos FA Cup a coach that is not a member of coaches association are not allowed to sit on the bench. In the NPFL a coach without at least a CAF license is not allowed, please what qualifies Yobo?

Does Joseph Yobo have any coaching license? 🤔

We all watched Joseph Yobo analyzing football on DSTV at #Afcon2019..Like we saw Sunday Oliseh do also at #Afcon2013.I had no complaints with Sunday Oliseh being appointed Eagles coach but i honestly don't think a guy like Yobo is ripe to assist Rohr.I honestly don't.

Wondering what certifications and trainings Joseph Yobo has to warrant his appointment as assistant manager of the Super Eagles – well, Mr Segun Odegbami says coaching certificates don’t matter. End of. pic.twitter.com/fp9JDRwcVb

I like Joseph Yobo, i really do; mainly for his effort in self development.
BUT, having him in a technical department, is extremely questionable. Even the NFF communique only profiled his playing career, nothing on technical sagacity.

Joseph Yobo gets Super Eagles assistant coach job. Hmmm, most of us knows how this script will end already.

Congrat Yobo:
The reason why we don't get result in this country is bcos we always put the cat before the horse.
J.Yobo has no coaching experience,he's just an ex-footballer &(poor)football analyst.We shouldn't complain if he fails to meet the expectations,bcos he's not a 'coach'— ميخائيل MYKEL (@Mikkymajor) February 12, 2020

Meanwhile, Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr is yet to react to the appointment of Yobo. However, the German tactician is expected back in the country next month ahead of Nigeria’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone.
