A couple of Super Eagles stars were in action for their respective clubs on Saturday, but none had a performance that stood out.
In England, Semi Ajayi was in action for Championship leaders, West Brom, but he could not help the Baggies secure the win as Nottingham Forest came back from behind twice to earn a point at the Hawthorns.
Callum Robinson gave Slaven Bilic’s side the lead in the 37th minute, but an own goal from Kyle Bartley right on half-time drew Forest level.
The away side returned the favour as Tobias Figueiredo smashed the ball past Brice Samba to restore West Brom’s lead in the 65th minute.
However, there will be one last drama as Matty Cash fired home in the first minute of additional time to earn a precious away point for Forest.
Ajayi who reacted angrily to Forest late equalizer has featured 32 times for the Baggies this season, scoring five times.
In France, Moses Simon was in action for Nantes despite walking off with an injury in last week’s 3-3 draw against Dijon. The on-loan Levante midfielder who scored in the thrilling draw has been in brilliant form for the Canaries this campaign.
However, his scoring streak came to an end as Nantes played a barren draw in Saturday’s Ligue 1 clash against Metz. The draw leaves Nantes in 10th position with 34 points from 25 games.
Also in France, Josh Maja was a second-half substitute in Bordeaux’s 2-2 draw against Dijon.
Mounir Chouiar opened the scoring for Dijon before Hwang Ui-Jo levelled the scores in the 35th minute. Jimmy Brand gave the home side the lead in the 64th minute, but Chouiar’s second of the night ensured the points were shared.
Maja is one of Les Girondins top scorers this season with seven goals, but this is his first appearance in Bordeaux’s last seven games.
In Spain, Samuel Chukwueze made his 23rd appearances in La Liga for Villarreal this season. The Super Eagles star came on for Paco Alcacer in the Yellow Submarines 2-1 win over Levante.
Gerad Moreno opened the scoring inside the opening ten minutes, but Borja Mayoral drew Levante level eleven minutes after the break. Nevertheless, Villarreal will not be denied the three points as Moi Gomez scored the winner five minutes later.
And finally, in Germany, Jamilu Collins scored an own goal in Paderborn’s 2-1 loss to Hertha Berlin. Dedryck Boyata put the away side ahead in the 10th minute, but Dennis Srbeny restored parity for Paderborn six minutes into the second half.
However, Hertha Berlin took the maximum points after Collins deflected Matheus Cunha’s backheel into his net. It was Collins 21st appearance for the Bundesliga bottom side this season.
