30-year-old forward Anthony Nwakaeme grabbed a brace and provided an assist as Trabzonspor thrashed Kasimpasa 6-0 at the Medical Park Stadyumu on Sunday afternoon.
Fresh from netting one of the two goals that dispatched Ogenyi Onazi’s Denizlispor in midweek, Nwakaeme was twice on the scorer’s sheet as the Black Sea Storm made it three out of four wins in the new year.
Three goals in four first-half minutes propelled the home side to a comfortable lead at the break. After the visitors lost Jorge Fernandes to a second bookable offence early in the second half, it was all downhill from there.
Further goals from Nwakaeme and Sorloth (twice) condemned Kasimpasa to their heaviest defeat of the season. Former Super Eagles skipper John Mikel Obi also excelled in the encounter, as he helped Hüseyin Çimşir’s side to keep their fourth clean sheet in as many games in 2020.
Nwakaeme, who last played for the Super Eagles in 2017, now has seven goals and five assists in 18 league games for Trabzonspor.
Meanwhile, in the Eredivisie, Cyriel Dessers and Heracles fell to a narrow 1-0 loss to FC Emmen at De Oude Meerdijk.
Marko Kolar got the winner for the home side on the stroke of halftime as 25-year-old Dessers failed to add to his 12 goals scored so far this term.
In the English Premier League, Leicester City suffered a surprising 2-1 defeat at struggling Burnley despite the introduction of Kelechi Iheanacho in the 73rd minute.
Harvey Barnes netted the opener for Brendan Rodgers side in the 20th minute, but a Chris Wood strike and an Ashley Westwood winner completed the comeback for the hosts.
The Foxes, who saw Jamie Vardy botched a penalty kick, continue to miss the services of injured Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi.
wauww Nwakaeme. I watched the match. He was perfect!
