The Rangers boss has charged Liverpool loanee Sheyi Ojo to step up, and become a key player for the club in the second half of the season.
The Nigeria eligible player put up an impressive performance in the last ten minutes of Gers 1-0 win against St Mirren.
Jermain Defoe netted the decisive strike that handed the Light Blues the win at Ibrox. The victory keeps Rangers two points adrift of Celtic, but they do have a game in hand over the league leaders.
Steven Gerrard threw in Ojo to replace Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo as the host sought for the second goal that would guarantee all the three points.
The winger has been struggling for form recently after a bright start to his loan spell. Ojo has no goal since a stunning strike against Feyenoord back in September.
However, he was lively in the minutes he was afforded, and even came close to scoring with his late effort clipping the visitors’ post.
Gerrard was pleased with his cameo performance against St Mirren and is desperate to see him hit the heights he expected when he joined on loan from Liverpool in the summer.
The Ibrox boss told RangersTV: “I was really pleased with Sheyi’s cameo. That’s the most positive I’ve seen him for quite a while.
“Hopefully he’s going to kick back into a bit of form because we’re going to need him and he’s going to help us.”
The former Reims winger has featured 31 times for Rangers this season, scoring five times, and providing seven assists.
