The on loan Stoke City midfielder came off the bench in the Copa del Rey tie at the Estadi Municipal de Badalona but could do little to save Getafe from suffering a shocking 2-0 loss to Badalona on Saturday night.
Days after switching to Spain on a temporary deal, Nigeria international Oghenekaro Peter Etebo has tasted his first defeat in a Getafe shirt.
Badalona, hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone in the Segunda B, struck two late goals to condemn their more illustrious foes to a memorable defeat.
The first 70 minutes of the encounter witnessed no goal which prompted Getafe manager José Bordalás to send in Etebo to help swing the tie. But it was Chema Moreno who opened the scoring for the hosts with just five minutes left to play. Hugo Esteban then netted a second deep into injury time to hand the Azulones their third loss in a row in all competitions.
Etebo will be in line to make his full debut when Getafe return to La Liga action on Friday in an eagerly anticipated tie against Kenneth Omeruo’s Leganes.
Meanwhile, at the Estadio Municipal Los Arcos, Samuel Chukwueze was impressive as Villarreal earned an extra-time 2-1 victory over Orihuela.
Gerard Moreno got the Yellow Submarines’ noses in front with a 72nd-minute strike but a late Brian Pallarés equalizer for the Segunda B hosts forced the tie into extra-time. With only 2 minutes left before both sides headed for penalties, Moreno popped up again to decide the tie in Villarreal’s favour.
