Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo had a La Liga debut to remember as his Getafe side thrashed Kenneth Omeruo’s Leganes at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque on Friday night.
The 24-year-old made his debut for the Azulones in the Copa Del Rey loss to Badalona last Saturday, but he was on the winning side on his La Liga debut.
The Nigeria international joined Getafe on a six-month loan deal from Stoke City with an option to make it permanent at the end of the season.
In his first La Liga game for El Geta, Etebo was introduced in the 31st minute for Allan Nyom who scored Getafe’s second goal.
Leandro Cabrera opened the José Bordalás’ side in the 12th minute before Allan Nyom doubled the away side’s lead in the 21st minute. Jaime Mata sealed the three points with a perfect finish in the 33rd minute as Getafe secured the bragging rights in the South Madrid derby.
It’s the perfect start for Etebo who was given a rating of 6.6 on whoscored.com. For Omeruo, he’ll be left disappointed after his side missed the chance to move out of relegation places.
The former Chelsea star was on for the entire duration, but could not do anything to stop the three goals his side conceded. His compatriot, however, Chidozie Awaziem was on the bench for the whole encounter.
The win takes Getafe up to fifth place with 33 points from 20 games, while Leganes stay in 19th place with 14 points from the same number of games.
