The Super Eagles defenders both starred as Leganes claimed only their third win of the season in the 2-0 defeat of Espanyol on Sunday.
Chidozie Awaziem and Kenneth Omeruo were both brilliant at the heart of Leganes’ 5-man defence to help power Javier Aguirre’s side to within two points of relegation safety.
In the early kickoff at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque, the home side started brilliantly and were rewarded with an 11th-minute opener off the boots of Martin Braithwaite.
Espanyol responded with venom, but the Leganes defence stood firm to keep their advantage heading into the break. And shortly after the restart, it was 2-0 to the Cucumber Growers when Youssef En-Nesyri provided a decent finish to a Kevin Rodrigues assist.
The win sees Leganes maintain their 19th position on the La Liga table with 13 points but they have cut the gap to 17th-placed Mallorca to just two points.
2013 AFCON winner Kenneth Omeruo would be particularly pleased with his display which earned him a season-high rating of 7.55 out of a possible 10.
Compatriot Awaziem also delivered an impressive performance to score a rating of 7.3 in his 11th league appearance of the campaign.
