“I Love Chelsea” – Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze Opens Up On January Transfer Move

The Super Eagles forward has finally confessed his long-held affection for the London giants but has no intention of moving away from the La Liga side anytime soon.

Villarreal’s wing wizard Samuel Chukwueze has debunked all transfer reports linking him with a move away from the Estadio de la Cerámica during the January transfer window, insisting that those rumours were nothing but ‘distractions’.

The gifted footballer was 19 years five months and 20 days old when he became the fourth youngest scorer in La Liga in the 2018/19 season.

The former Diamond academy product has since attracted interests from clubs in Spain and England, with Liverpool believed to be leading the chase for his signature.

However, Chukwueze has shut down every transfer news of him making the rounds while confessing that his love for Chelsea had nothing to do with him desiring to sign for the Blues come January.

“I was supporting Chelsea. I used to support every team that featured a Nigerian. So my love for Chelsea then was because of Mikel,” the Villarreal star revealed as monitored by Soccernet.ng.

“I am not going (to Chelsea) because I am a Villarreal player and need to get my confidence more.

“For now, I am a Villarreal player. I am not interested in any other club, I don’t want to be distracted by anything anybody is saying.

“I want to concentrate and see how we (Villarreal) can remain up there among the best in Spain. For now, I need maximum concentration.

“Maybe in the future, a movement is possible but right now my attention is on Villarreal. I want to focus well on my club and gain more confidence. Maybe when the time is ripe, I can move.”

Samuel Chukwueze was part of the Nigerian squad that won bronze at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.

He scored his first senior goal in Nigeria’s 2–1 win over South Africa in the quarter finals of the African showpiece in the summer.
