Ex international, Garba Lawal believes the decision to extend Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr’s contract lies with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President.
The German tactician is yet to renew his contract that is expected to expire in the middle of Super Eagles 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in June 2020.
Rohr, who was appointed coach of the senior national team in August 2016, has spoken out against the NFF over the failure to pay his Salary.
However, that has not gone well with the country’s football ruling body as they also demanded answers from Rohr for exposing to the public some aspects of his agreement.
But former Roda Fc midfielder, Garba Lawal told Brila Fm that the NFF have the choice to either sack or retain the Super Eagles, technical adviser.
He said coaches come and go regardless of what they win for the country.
”I believe NFF employed him so they are the one to decide whether to keep Rohr or not, so they will call for a meeting within themselves or the President will decide to call his executive members,” Lawal said.
”But it all depends on the NFF what they want. We don’t know what they want at this moment”.
”I can’t speak for NFF. Before he came to Austin Eguavoen also coached Nigeria, late Keshi, Dan Amokachi, so Rohr is not the only one. ‘People come, win trophies and they go, so he is not the only one.”
Lawal is regarded as one of the most versatile players in the Super Eagles of the 1990s and early 2000s. He made 54 appearances for the Super Eagles, scoring 6 goals.
