Ex international, Mutiu Adepoju has appealed to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to resolve the contract row with the Super Eagles technical adviser to allow the team to concentrate on 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Rohr, whose contract will expire in six months, has been in a tangle with the Amaju Pinnick-led football body over issues of none payment of salaries/bonuses.
Still uncertain about his future, the German tactician started the 2021 AFCON qualifiers on a winning note, defeating the Squirrels of Benin 2-1 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium before edging Crocodiles of Lesotho 4-2 at the Satsoto Stadium in Group L.
Wading into the issue, Adepoju told Soccernet.ng that the ongoing contract row between the NFF and Rohr should be resolved quickly for the interest of the Super Eagles.
Popularly known as ‘The Headmaster’, during his playing days, the former Real Sociedad midfielder urged the NFF to consolidate on the progress and achievements made by Rohr on the senior national team since he took over in 2016.
“I am not really in support of the ongoing contract row between the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr,” Adepoju told Soccernet.ng
“Issue like this doesn’t help the Super Eagles because it will create some level of distraction amongst some players as their mind may be diverted from the main agenda of the day, which is the qualification for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
“We should be careful about how we handle this issue so that it won’t boomerang at the end.”
Adepoju made 48 appearances for the senior national team, scoring six goals.
