James, Young Shine As Fred, Martial Flop In Man United Player Ratings

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saw Manchester United ’s brief revival ended by Reds reject Joshua King.

The Bournemouth forward, 27, produced an outstanding goal on the stroke of half time – lifting the ball over Aaron Wan Bissaka before volleying past David de Gea.

Soccernet.ng rate the performance of the Man United players against Bournemouth

David de Gea – 5: Was not called upon often but could have closed down the angle quicker for Josh King’s goal. Did make an important save in the second half when Harry Wilson shot from 18 yards out.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 4: Poor defending for Josh King’s goal – was turned far too easily after getting sucked into going for the ball. An uncharacteristic lapse. Subbed after 80 mins.

Victor Lindelof – 5: Overly aggressive at times when trying to win the ball back high up the field – and was shown a yellow card for that naivety in the second half.

Harry Maguire – 6: Disappointing that he did not carry the ball forward with the endeavour he often showed for Leicester and England. Defensively he was not at fault but he did not move the ball quick enough in possession.

Ashley Young – 6: Got forward well for a 34-year-old but was caught out of position at times and gave away a very dangerous free-kick in the second-half with which Harry Wilson should have done better.

Fred – 4: For his standards, not the worst of games. Developing a good understanding with Scott McTominay in midfield but his weight of passing, particularly, must improve. Fired the ball too hard into his team-mates far too often which halted attacks.

Scott McTominay – 5: Carried out his midfield duties in typical dogged style but looked clueless when on the edge of the Bournemouth box with a compact defence in front of him. Too many sideways passes.

Andreas Pereira – 4: Disappointing delivery from set-pieces having established himself as the dead-ball man. Did not create enough in the No 10 position. Subbed after 68 minutes.

Daniel James – 6: Lively in the first-half when he had the better of Diego Rico but was not as effective after the interval when Bournemouth sat deeper and limited space in behind. Subbed after 80 mins.

Marcus Rashford – 5: Failed to make an impact on the game as Bournemouth sat back. Harried and pressed defenders until the final whistle but did not have the quality to match.

Anthony Martial – 5: Might well have had a case for a penalty in the first half which was not given but looked off the boil all afternoon. Shooting boots must have been left in Manchester.

Subs

Jesse Lingard – 4: No real upgrade on Andreas Pereira, another below-par afternoon.

Mason Greenwood -4;  Had little or no impact in the game.

Brandon Williams – 3; Had little or no impact in the game.
