Frank Lampard guided his young side to their first five consecutive victories of the season and Lampard’s first ever as a manager with a narrow victory over Newcastle at the Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

A 73rd minute strike off the boot of fullback Marcos Alonso was all the Blues needed to see off the challenge of the Magpies in a match that saw Tammy Abraham fire blanks.

The Blues fans are getting used to seeing the team score a few goals but endured a frustrating afternoon as Newcastle limited the home team to a few chances of which only one was converted.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard, speaking to Match of the Day, as revealed that the Chelsea fans would always expect more from the players.

“The second half was the most pleasing thing. It was a good test for us today. We changed things a little in the second half and we showed a little more flexibility and creativity,” Lampard said.

“We were upbeat, we had urgency, the tempo was good, and that got us the win.

“We want to score goals. You can see the fans – I think they’re happy with what they’re seeing at the moment. We want more.

“If we want to keep moving up, we can do better. So far this season, though, things are going well.”

Good win. I think Lampard must start playing Pulisic and Kovavic and stop playing Mount for 90 minutes. This team will go far this season.
