Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has yet again expressed his delight at his summer dealings after he was able to convince highly rated Nigeria international Joe Aribo to switch from Charlton Athletic and join the Ibrox giants.
Super Eagles star Joe Aribo is enjoying a fantastic season for club and country as he continues to impress his Rangers boss who is in awe of the talents of the London-born midfielder.
Criticisms sprung from certain quarters when Aribo decided to leave England for Scotland, but the 23-year-old has seen his stocks risen since after featuring and scoring in the Europa League qualifiers and earning his first international invitations.
It is in the green and white colours of the Super Eagles that Aribo has shone the brightest however, grabbing a goal both in his international debut against Ukraine (2-2 draw) and versus Brazil (1-1) just last week.
That goal against the Selecao, after a deep run from midfield confirmed what Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has always seen in Aribo and what he expects him to reproduce throughout his career.
“The moment of the goal [against Brazil] and the type of goal, he will score them throughout his career because he’s got all the attributes to make the box, he’s got the soft feet in the box to create exciting things, and I still have to pinch myself that we got him here,” Gerrard said.
“Joe can be whatever he wants to be. If he stays as humble as he is, stays as professional and keeps showing effort and desire, Joe can make his career whatever he wants it to be.”
Joe Aribo has two goals in two appearances for Nigeria and is believed to be the long term replacement for retired skipper John Mikel Obi.
