Ex international, Nwankwo Kanu has called on the Super Eagles players to approach the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Benin with all sense of seriousness.
The Atlanta Olympic gold medalist, who lauded the team’s performance in their 2-2 draw against Ukraine in an international friendly game, stated that the players played beyond his expectation.
“When we resume our 2021 AFCON qualifier against Benin, the team shouldn’t allow the tempo to diminish. If we play against a team like Benin we must have to do well and if it’s Brazil we must also have to well.
“The Super Eagles must ensure that they raise the standard of their football and know that every game is very important for the team.
Papilo as he was fondly called in his playing days, reiterated that the Players had a decent outing at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
“I think everybody did very well at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. They got to the semi-final and would have loved to play in the final. However, whatever happens, happened for good.
“Besides, after the AFCON tournament, the team played their first friendly game against Ukraine and performed very well beyond my expectation. Unluckily for the team, the game ended in a draw despite going two-goal ahead.
