Scotland Premiership club announce signing of Nigeria-born English player

Former England youth international Jonathan Chidozie Obika has signed a two-year contract with St Mirren after being released by Oxford United.

The Buddies continue the strengthening of their squad ahead of the Ladbrokes Premiership season with the capture of Nigeria-born English player Jonathan Obika.

The 28-year-old striker made 16 appearances for Oxford last season scoring once. He however suffered a cruciate ligament injury in October and has not played since.

St Mirren have nevertheless taken a gamble on the former Spurs player, handing him a two-year deal.

The former England Under-20 international began his career with Tottenham Hotspur and made four appearances for the London club.

Obika has since had spells with Yeovil, Millwall, Crystal Palace, Peterborough, Swindon, Charlton and Brighton.
